13 ways to carve out time for YOU over the holidays

Dear Ones,

The temperature has plummeted to below zero the past couple of days.

I’m cocooned in the cream-colored cushions on my couch, looking out at the snow-covered foothills. Sadie’s sleeping on the sheepskin rug below me. And, I inhale the earthy pine of the Christmas tree as its lights twinkle.

My heart….warm… swells in my chest. Happy. Full. Blessed. And tired.

Oh, yes: I’m grateful that it’s that time of the year again. For rest, reflection, and completion.

Looking around, I admit: my life looks nothing like it did last year at this time. And, yet, through life’s mysterious rearranging process of destruction and creation, this new configuration feels a lot more me.

2016 has been an “interesting” year for so many of us– and adequate digestion time is required to mine the lessons from the challenges we faced.

While lots of new changes and ideas are brewing inside me as a result of all I’ve lived this year, I know that sharing them now would be premature. The magical art of feminine gestation is needed.

As we approach my favorite day of the year, the winter solstice, and the holidays that ensue, I encourage you to make space for the same.

Let’s support one another in aligning with the slower pace our bodies and souls so crave at this time of year by:

  • Pressing “pause” on new projects
  • Spending less time on email and social media (and more time outside, with loved ones, and with ourselves)
  • Sleeping more
  • Devoting time and space to doing a year-end review
  • Favoring practices that deepen your faith (like prayer), and that calm your nervous system (like yin yoga and long walks in nature)

Since The Way of the Happy Woman is closing for our annual holiday sojourn this Friday (until January 2), and I’m bowing out now to spend next week visioning and retreating, I wanted to leave you with some tools to help you tap into the renewal and magic intrinsic to the holy weeks ahead.
