Who’s been skydiving?! It’s on my bucket list; and, until I actually go, I like to apply something I heard about it to my own life (and to those of the women I support).
Last month, during a call with one of my SHE Mentoring clients (we’ll call her Leslie), Leslie shared that she almost felt ready to make a big change in her life.
For Leslie, this meant two things: communicating her truth in her marriage in a way that could shift its structure forever and moving to a new part of the world where she could fully pursue her soul’s passion.
When we spoke, I remembered something I heard about skydiving.
When you’re perched at the edge of the plane, preparing to jump, the instructor cues you to jump on the count of 5.
Then, as she counts down from 5 to 1, she PUSHES you out of the plane on 4.
She doesn’t do this to be a jerk but to support the novice skydiver on going after what she wants. The instructor knows that, if the skydiver waits until 5 to jump, the chances that she’ll chicken out are significantly higher.
I told this story to Leslie and we spoke about the difference between jumping into her new life on a 2 or a 3, versus a 4.
At 2 or 3, you really aren’t ready. You’re waiting until you feel resonance in your body. You’re having conversations with different parts of yourself, getting them fully on board for your bold leap.
But by 4, you’re ready. You’re perched to jump. In fact, at 4 you’re usually more ready than you are at 5 (when your strong survival mechanisms kick in and try to keep you safe in your comfort zone).
So, my friends, I ask you: what leap are you waiting to make in your life? And what number are you at? A 1 or 2? Perhaps a 3?
And do you have the courage to push yourself out of the plane at 4? To leap BEFORE you’re ready?
For those of you on the fence about whether or not to join the 2018 SHE Yoga & Meditation Teacher Training in Thailand, this applies to you, too!
Remember, it’s never going to feel like the perfect time. Don’t wait until the stars are aligned. Don’t wait until it feels perfectly convenient for your schedule. Don’t wait to see if I will offer this another next year. If this is something you want, take the leap, right before you feel ready.
I’ll be there to catch you on the other side, along with a tribe of soulful risk takers. Remember, life happens just beyond your comfort zone.
(Our count of “5” happens this Thursday, November 16 when registration closes– for good– for the 2018 SHE Yoga & Meditation Teacher Training in Thailand. Join us before then here. )
