ONE thing to nourish every area of your life

In my mastermind program, the SHE Leadership Circle, I offer a couple of recommended books each month. This month’s is The ONE Thing.

I used to choose ONE Thing to focus on for my health. ONE Thing in my work. ONE Thing in my spiritual practice, etc. But this year I’m doubling down– and wising up. I’m literally focusing on only ONE Thing.

This ONE Thing, I now see, encompasses all dimensions of my life. It challenges me to keep emptying out my calendar and clearing up space.

Why? Because focus (not force) generates power. And by zeroing in on just ONE Thing, I can nurture the TWO most healing things I can possibly practice: sleep and silence.

So many are touting the benefits of sleep these days (hallelujah!), so today I’m going to focus on the latter, sleep’s less-talked-about sister– silence.

A recent study shows that noise causes stress hormones to be released in the brain. Over time, these hormones cause all sorts of health problems and hinder our connection to our creativity, inner wisdom, and resilience.

“Science,” the above-mentioned article states, “is now showing that silence may be just what we need to regenerate our exhausted brains and bodies.” These studies backup with spiritual masters have always taught: silence heals.

But silence is hard to come by. From lawn mowers to garbage trucks, traffic to TVs, we’re constantly being bombarded by… noise.

This is one of many the reasons why I offer an annual silent retreat. For seven days, women can undertake a sacred pilgrimage– away from the stresses of their daily lives, to a beautiful place in nature, and into themselves.

We turn off our phones, leave our computers at home, and enter into sacred silence.

Together, we practice yoga, dance, meditate, swim, walk in nature, nap, eat delicious food, and fill our hungry hearts with buried teachings about women’s long-lost spiritual powers.

By the end of our week together, we come back to life.

I believe that retreats like these are one of the very best gifts we can give ourselves. This is why I’ve been offering them annually for the past fifteen years. This is why I invest in them for myself year after year.

I led a training at this venue several years ago, and it remains one of my (and many others’) very favorites.

Its white, sandy shores kissing the warm, Caribbean sea, Tulum houses one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. It awakens the sensual, magical, and feminine within all her visit her.

Plus, the resort that’s hosting us is intimate (we have room for 17 women) and the food is out of this world (I’m a big foodie. Especially when it involves fresh chips and salsa)!

Over the past decade, I’ve offered versions of this training in Hong Kong, Beijing, Dubai, Mexico, California, Thailand, and at Kripalu. It speaks to the souls of women of all ages, colors, shapes, and sizes.
