Feb 6-12, 2012 - Embodied Heart™ Winter Women’s Retreat

featured_event_2Join Sara and her teaching team for 5 days of diving into the lessons of the winter season: rest, rejuvenation, and deepening insight. In the sultry scenery of the idyllic island of Koh Samui we’ll practice yoga and meditation, convene in women’s circles, dance, laugh, be silent, celebrate ourselves and one another, sip coconuts, eat delicious food, sun, and swim in the sea. We’ll consciously step out of our busy lives to come together in sisterhood and community to give support, strength, and clarity to our own evolution.

Happyness Through Yoga

featured_event_2Early on in her new book, "The Way of the Happy Woman," Sara Avant Stover presents the reader with a powerful insight into the effect yoga and meditation have had on her life. Stover often tells people, she writes, "that I honestly don't think I'd be alive today if I hadn't learned yoga and meditation and if I didn't practice them regularly."

That's a strong statement and one reason I found myself chatting with Stover, a Boulder resident, over a pot of organic small leaf puerh at the Trident Café on a recent spring morning. Just how did yoga and meditation save her life? And by extension, what Was really wondering was, can they save my life as well?

I was not disappointed. Reading the book, then spending an hour with Stover was like the pleasant feeling you get from a shared pot of good tea with a smart friend. Her story, full of ups and downs, is full of insights for women, of course. It also, however, valuable for men as well.

Favorite Recipes...

Gluten Free Orange Chocolate Scones

2 cups blanched almond flour
¾ teaspoon baking soda
½ cup dark chocolate chips 73% cacao
1 tablespoon orange zest
1 egg
3 tablespoons agave nectar

1) - In a large bowl, combine almond flour, baking soda, chips and zest
2) - In a smaller bowl, combine egg and agave
3) - Mix wet ingredients into dry
4) - Knead dough with hands if necessary to ensure proper distribution of ingredients
5) - Form dough into a circle that is about ½-inch in thick
6) - Cut dough like a pizza, into 8 slices
7) - Using a metal baking spatula transfer to a parchment paper lined baking sheet
8) - Bake at 350° for 10-15 minutes
9) - Serve
