Dear Yoga Student,
Walk into your next yoga class. Look around. Who do you see? Exactly! Rows and rows of women. Probably at least 8 out of 10 of the students in the room are female!
But here’s the catch: do you (or any of these women) know how to practice yoga when you’re menstruating? How about when you’re pregnant, just had a miscarriage, delivered your baby, or are sweating out your menopausal hot flashes?
That’s what I thought. Probably not. Most likely you’re doing the same old yoga, day in and day out, without tuning into how you’re feeling, what time of month it is, or what’s happening in Nature around you. Even though as women we’re intimately linked to the ebbs and flows of Nature, modern living teachings us to ignore our these rhythms. Overtime this creates problems.
If you do a strong yoga practice when you’re tired or menstruating, you can contribute to your own PMS, irregular menstruation, reproductive challenges, and much more more.
This is what I used to do. For years, I would sweat it out on my yoga mat everymorning for 2-3 hours. Regardless of how I was feeling, I pushed myself to master more and more advanced asanas. The result? I did master those postures, but I suffered as a result. My menstruation was irregular, I became very moody and irritable, my body became hard and muscular, and my sex drive plummeted. I was a very good yoga practitioner, but I paid a big price for this. For, I felt far far away from being a woman.
So, if this sounds familiar–if you put your femininity aside each time you roll out your yoga mat, you’re not alone.
We need teachers who can model—to these millions of women yoga students–how to practice yoga as women!
During this 9-day Women’s Yoga Teacher Training you will:
- Acquire the skills and confidence needed to teach yoga to women in all stages of life—from menses to menopause.
- Tap into your feminine power—how to share your vision and voice without sacrificing your softness.
- Learn intimately how to commune with your own inner and outer cycles.
- Laugh, love, and learn from other inspiring sisters!
Contribute to healing of the planet herself by empowering women to love and respect their bodies, their wisdom, and their intuition.
Yes, it seems like a big task. But the world is ready for you!
We need a whole new MODEL of how to be a
woman in the world today.
This is exactly what The Way of the Happy Woman™ is all about…
In my innovative approach to feminine health, happiness, and success, I use ancient yoga and Ayurvedic lifestyle teachings, modern wisdom, and your own loving, creative nature to step into the role of atruly fulfilling and happy life as strong, sexy, and loving leadersin an otherwise confused world.
Yet, it needs our beauty, compassion, and wisdom now more than ever!
I, more than anyone, know that it’s not easy being a female leader in the world today. It’s been a long journey from the time I took my first yoga class at the age of 18 to today. There’s been a lot of ups and downs and trials and errors as I’ve figure out, slowly but surely, how to practice yoga in a way that honors my womanhood.
Through this, I’ve studied with countless teachers, mentors, and coaches cultivating this unique approach to women’s yoga. That’s why I’ve created this course—to show you the way so that you don’t have to search and struggle like I did.
I want YOU to become a leader, guiding women to find authentic happiness within through yoga.
This training is the culmination of a 15 years of my own practice, research, and exploration—on top of the combined hundreds of years of experience of my guest teachers.
In just 9 days, we’ll give you all the tools you need to become such a leader.
During this time you’ll get in-depth, insider knowledge of the cycles of womanhood and how they relate to yoga including:
- Menstruation
- Sexuality
- Fertility
- Pre-Natal
- Post-Partum
- Menopause
- Breast Cancer
We will journey together through the reproductive, hormonal, and spiritual life cycles of womanhood. You’ll understand all the nuances from anatomical, endocrinological, emotional, nutritional, spiritual, and biomechanical standpoints.
And, just like every aspect of yoga, our ability to teach and understanding relies on our own inner experience. So, as women teachers and practitioners, we need to explore and understand our own cycles and how they affect our practices.
We need to make connecting to our femininity a priority in our lives and practice in order to impart lasting changes in others.
As much as many women today really can do anything and everything, we must remember our unique biology. We are hardwired to be deeply in tune to Nature.
Now more than ever our planet is crying out for care and consideration. As women listening to ourselves and acting in alliance with nature’s call, we can radiate health and wisdom. When we do this, we become role models for countless other women.
The Women’s Yoga Teacher Training offers a new model of what it is to be women, raise girls, and shine the healing light of empowered feminine wisdom into the world.
Imagine a world where the transition through puberty is honored and welcomed. Imagine a world where the softness and vulnerability of women is revered. Where we love our bodies and their cycles. Where pause is respected as much as action. Where we live intimately with the rhythms of Life herself.
That’s what this training is all about. And I’ve teamed up with my good friend and colleague, Kimberly Johnson, to co-teach this with me—along with several other female experts to give you the highest caliber training possible.

12th Day 1 : Menstruation with Sara & Guest Teacher Megan Braet
A radical redefinition of this critical transition from girlhood to womanhood is needed. We will explore the spiritual, physical, and emotional benefits of honoring our menses while learning specific yogic techniques and practices to support pre-menstrual, menstrual, and post-menstrual times of the month.
In the afternoon, guest teacher Megan Braet, founder of Moon Divas in Boulder, CO, will teach us about the physiological process of menstruation and important self-care practices that we can do on ourselves and teach to our own students.
About Megan
Megan Braet has over 1,000 hours of training, including Maya abdominal/uterine massage and spiritual healing, neuromuscular therapy, deep-listening massage, flower essences, pre-natal and postpartum, chakra balancing/energy work and lymphatic drainage. Her love of traditional healing began during her first international journey in 1997 while visiting local healers in Thailand, Malaysia, India and Nepal. From 2002 to 2007 she made yearly pilgrimages to study traditional
Maya healing with curanderos in Central America. She has continued her studies in heart-centered healing in the Amazon and Andes, traveling to Peru in 2007 and 2009 to study with Shamanic Healers. In addition to doing bodywork she has taught a number of workshops on reproductive and spiritual self-care and is currently teaching a series of workshops entitled Tending the Heart of Joy.
13th Day 2 : Sexuality with Guest Teacher Ellen Heed
A woman’s spirituality is directly linked to her sexuality. So, isn’t it time to get the sex education you never got?! Female sexuality expert Ellen Heed will show you the way with precision and flair.
The pathway to the deepest sexual and personal healing begins with basic information describing how we are put together. Using richly illustrated lecture, provocative dialogue, and a detailed textbook, Ellen will answer your questions and demystify the complex organization of tissues that provide access to our deepest pleasures.
This revolutionary revisioning of our sexual selves invites us to open our awareness to the fullness of our ecstatic potential. The goal of this workshop is to initiate an ongoing process of sexual empowerment through the understanding of accurate anatomical information and conscious (private) self-exploration.
We will also explore the special energetics of each tissue in our pelvis, from bone and connective tissue to muscles and the emotions they hold. We will use tantric pranayama practice to awaken and strengthen pelvic floor muscles, and gentle yoga to melt hips open and access the emotions that can lock us up and keep us numb. We will learn to release emotional holding in the pelvis using gentle bodywork techniques.
About Ellen
Ellen Heed is a longtime dancer and yogini and became certified as a Shiatsu Specialist in 2000, which led to a deep study of functional anatomy and transformational bodywork with Dr. Vincent Medici, DC ND CMT. The process of receiving deep bodywork combined with the practice of yoga created profound changes in her nervous system, as her capacity for moving energy through her meridians became tangible and palpable. As the process continues, she finds that it is possible to feel the subtlest of body sensations, down to the microns-wide bandwidth of her own cranial rhythms.
She has completed the California State Certification in Sexological Bodywork, as well as studied under Joseph Kramer at the Institute for the Advanced Study of Human Sexuality in San Francisco and Visionary Craniosacral Work with Hugh Milne. She currently teaches Anatomy & Physiology, Pain & Orthopedic Evaluation, and Craniosacral Therapy & Adjustments worldwide to yoga professionals. She also maintains a thriving practice with clients and students all over the world that includes sexual education & counseling, Visionary Craniosacral Work, Deep Tissue & Pelvic Floor Reclamation, as well as Emotional Release Bodywork.
14th Day 3 (Morning): The Pelvic Floor
This morning we’ll take a field trip to a local anatomy lab.
As part of our complete study of women’s anatomy, we will have the rare and special opportunity to reverently view several prosections of female pelvises. (A prosection is a cadaver dissection already prepared- so we will not dissect, we will view already prepared bodies.) You will be able to see and explore the pelvic floor and reproductive anatomy from yet another vantage point. A visit to the anatomy lab is an unforgettable experience- a kind of learning that cannot be replicated in any other way. You will see in three dimensions how the layers of organs, muscles and connective tissue interrelate and interconnect. This image will stay with you and give you another entry way into understanding your own body and the bodies of others.
Day 3 (Afternoon): Fertility with Kimberly
This afternoon we will address natural fertility methods that connect us to our personal rhythms so that we can remain vital and healthy whether we are trying to discourage or encourage pregnancy. As women, we have the power to connect in a deep way with the Earth and our ancestors. When we allow ourselves the space and time to connect and listen, our sexuality, sensuality and fertility are naturally enhanced. Our focus through yoga practice in supporting fertility will be on relaxation and present moment connection, yin and restorative practices, and directed hip openers to increase awareness.
15th Day 4 : Free Time!
We’re going to practice what we preach! We all need cycles of activity and rest, so, in order to get the most out of your studies, we’ll all take a break mid-way through the course. On this free day you can enjoy Boulder: strolling on the Pearl Street Mall, sipping chai in a street-side café, indulging in a massage, or taking off to hike one of the many nearby trails. All are opportunities to drink in Boulder’s magical, healing splendor!
16th & 17th Days 5 + 6 : Pre-Natal Yoga with Sara and Guests
We all share the same knowing: our children are our future. During these two days, you’ll learn how to serve the world by empowering women and ushering them into motherhood consciously, powerfully, and gracefully.
The prenatal part of this training utilizes a holistic and integrated approach to preparing women– body, mind and heart– for birthing. By merging the ancient ways of birthing and mothering that have been handed down to us through the ages with yogic philosophy and biomechanics, you will lead a new mother to the awareness that she truly knows within herself of how to bring her baby forth into this world safely and consciously. Learn how to empower and educate women about how to care for themselves and their babies during pregnancy, birth, and beyond.
Guest teacher Michele Kreisberg will walk you through the changing anatomy of a pregnant mother and her baby, while local doula, R.N. and prenatal yoga teacher, Sutay Berman will educate you about the stages of labor and how to use yoga to help during the birth process itself.

18th & 19th Days 6 + 7: Post Partum Yoga with Kimberly and Guests
Post-Partum health is a missing link in women’s health care. This training is a step towards closing that gap through educating yoga teachers to support each woman through this transition. Inherent to any rite of passage is the re-formation of self-identity and communal identity. In the birth process, we are literally re-formed and through and within this process is an enormous movement through the cellular and ancestral and personal history. Out of this reformation comes various paradoxes—feelings of tremendous connection as well as isolation, great joy and overwhelm, and a gradual understanding of the enormous gain that is accompanied by loss.
Some of the skills you will learn to support health in the post-partum period are:
- Ancient healing techniques (mostly from the Indian Vedic tradition) for mind, body, spirit and heart to assist in the transition to motherhood.
- A series of movements, derived from yoga, Pilates, and Feldenkrais that will support birth recovery in a safe and enjoyable way.
- Why Kegels don’t work and what does.
- Cross-cultural birth perspectives on post-partum care to tend to the preservation of our life force immediately after birth.
- Massage techniques for breaking up scar tissue from tearing or stitching and diminishing strain in the lower back and sacrum.
- Ways to re-establish connection and sensation in the pelvis.
- Modes of exercise that are extremely helpful in getting back into shape healthily.
Guest teacher Kate Kripewill about post-partum depression and how to support new mothers emotionally, while local Ayurdoula, Lee Macikwill address how and why to use Ayurvedic food and self-care rituals during the post-partum period.
About Kate
Kate Kripke is a licensed social worker in Boulder with a practice focusing on prenatal and postpartum wellness. She works with moms to establish strategies for health, wellness, and balance and, in doing so, partners with moms to prevent symptoms of postpartum depression and anxiety. In addition, she is an Ayurvedic postpartum doula, whose sole role is to support a resting period for the Mother after the arrival of her baby by massaging the Mother, cooking nourishing meals to enhance digestion, lactation and rejuvenation.
20th Day 8 (Morning): Menopause with Sara
Imagine aging as a woman without dreading menopause. Yes, through the skillful application of yoga, meditation, Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine, it is possible to eradicate the negative side effects of menopause. When this happens, this important transition can herald what it’s meant to—a profound shift for a woman into her wisdom year, when her intuition, insight, and spiritual self lead the way!
Day Eight (Afternoon): Breast Cancer with Guest Teacher Michelle Anderson
Learn specific yogic and body/mind practices for those suffering from Breast Cancer. Help women to reaquaint and reconnect with their bodies and their hearts during this time—no matter what stage they’re at in their healing journey.
About Michelle
Michelle Anderson has been practicing and studying yoga since 1991, and began teaching in 2002. Her main influences on this path include: AshtangaVinyasa yoga with Richard Freeman; Iyengar yoga with Manouso Manos, Gabriella Giubilaro, Laura Allard, Tias Little, AadilPalkhivala and others; Anusara yoga with John Friend, Desiree Rumbaugh, and Amy Ippolitti; Bhakti yoga with Uma Rose and Ammachi.
